I want to thank you for your warm welcome to La Habra. I am completing my third month as the Superintendent of La Habra City School District and I have toured each site, visited every classroom and met with each staff. I have also been introduced to our instructional aides, school psychologists, academic coaches, community liaisons, office staff, cafeteria workers, custodians, parent volunteers and most important…some of the most articulate, bright, and amazing students I have encountered as an educator. In each classroom I visited, I observed critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, engagement, reflection, enthusiasm, and a connection to learning. I observed effective teaching strategies, and I observed adults who truly put their heart and soul into providing your child opportunities to grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
The Board of Education met on Thursday, April 13th and discussed The Future of La Habra City School District. It was a productive conversation and we determined that it is time to review the options to change our K-2, 3-5, 6-8 configuration. Our current configuration has served us well since the 1970's to integrate our community and focus on the instructional needs of our primary, upper elementary and middle school students.
At this time, we need to be more competitive with our surrounding school districts and as a community, it is important to challenge ourselves to continue to create excellent institutions of learning and to promote positive change for future generations. Many of you have attended the wonderful schools in our system and continued on to phenomenal colleges and career opportunities. We need to celebrate the success we have created in our District. We also need to celebrate the sense of family that exists on each campus and throughout our community.
A Task Force consisting of representatives from the La Habra Education Association, the California School Employees Association, teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and community members will be created. Through collaboration, listening, creative thinking and purpose the Task Force will discuss the “who, what, where, when, and how” of the transformation.
Students, parents, and teachers will benefit from a collaborative and comprehensive systemic change that will incorporate a new model. This will result in less change/movement for students and allow for a more continuous individualistic analysis of learning trends, data collection across grade levels, targeted interventions for at-risk students, and the building of high-powered academic schools that challenge our students throughout the District.
Together, we are stronger! Let’s make La Habra City School District a “Destination District”.

Quiero agradecerles por su cálida bienvenida a La Habra. Estoy completando mi tercer mes como Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de La Habra. He ido por cada escuela, he visitado cada salón de clases y me he reunido con cada personal. También he sido presentada a nuestros ayudantes de instrucción, psicólogos de las escuelas, entrenadores académicos, enlaces comunitarios, personal de oficina, trabajadores de la cafetería, custodios, padres voluntarios y lo más importante ... algunos de los estudiantes más articulados, brillantes y sorprendentes que he encontrado como educadora. En cada salón de clases que visité, observé pensamiento crítico, resolución de problemas, innovación, compromiso, reflexión, entusiasmo y una conexión con el aprendizaje. Observé estrategias de enseñanza eficaces, y observé a los adultos que verdaderamente ponen su corazón y su alma en proveer a su niño con oportunidades para crecer, aprender y alcanzar su potencial máximo.
La Mesa Directiva se reunió el Jueves, 13 de Abril y habló sobre El Futuro del Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de La Habra. Fue una conversación productiva y determinamos que es hora de revisar las opciones para cambiar nuestra configuración K-2, 3-5, 6-8. Nuestra configuración actual nos ha servido bien desde los años setenta para integrar a nuestra comunidad y enfocarnos en las necesidades de instrucción de nuestros estudiantes de primaria, primaria superior y secundaria.
En estos momentos, necesitamos ser más competitivos con nuestros distritos escolares circundantes y como comunidad, es importante desafiarnos a seguir creando excelentes instituciones de aprendizaje y promover un cambio positivo para las generaciones futuras. Muchos de ustedes han asistido a las maravillosas escuelas en nuestro sistema y han continuado con universidades fenomenales y oportunidades profesionales. Tenemos que celebrar el éxito que hemos creado en nuestro Distrito. También necesitamos celebrar el sentido de familia que existe en cada escuela y en todo nuestro distrito.
Se creará una Fuerza de Trabajo integrada por representantes de la Asociación de Educación de La Habra, la Asociación de Empleados de las Escuelas de California, maestros, personal, administradores, padres y miembros de la comunidad. A través de colaboración, escuchar, pensamiento creativo y propósito, la Fuerza de Trabajo hablará de "quién, qué, dónde, cuándo y cómo" de la transformación.
Los estudiantes, padres y maestros se beneficiarán de un cambio sistémico colaborativo e integral que incorporará un nuevo modelo. Esto resultará en menos cambio/movimiento para los estudiantes y permitirá un análisis individualista más continuo de las tendencias de aprendizaje, la recopilación de datos a través de los grados, las intervenciones dirigidas a los estudiantes en riesgo y la construcción de escuelas académicas de alto rendimiento que desafían a nuestros estudiantes en todo el Distrito.
¡Juntos, somos más fuertes! Hagamos del Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de La Habra un "Distrito de Destino".
