La Habra Families,   [ Español ]

LHCSD offers two independent study options; the Virtual Independent Learning Academy (VILA) and the Community Home Education Program (CHEP) through a partnership with Orange County Department of Education.

The goal of both VILA and CHEP is to provide an alternative to in-person instruction to students whose health may be put at risk by attending class face-to-face. As such, Independent Study is an educational program that provides instruction based on the state-adopted content standards by certificated teachers. There are specific requirements for instructional time that includes both synchronous and asynchronous work. These expectations will be outlined in the students’ written Learning Agreement, which must be signed prior to enrollment.

Families interested in either VILA or CHEP have the right to request a pupil-parent-educator conference meeting before enrollment, pupil rights regarding procedures for enrolling, disenrolling, and re-enrolling in independent study, and the synchronous and asynchronous instructional time that a pupil will have access to as a part of independent study.

Please review the information provided below for VILA or follow this link to learn more about CHEP.

If interested in VILA, submit an Intra-District Transfer Request Form. Once submitted, families will be contacted by Ms. Flesher,  with more information.

If interested in CHEP, contact the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, Dr. Sheryl Tecker.

Familias de La Habra,
