Principal's Message

[ Español ]

My name is Mike Klewer, and I will serve as Principal for the 2020-2021 La Habra City School District’s virtual school.  I am excited to accompany you, your child, and our staff on this year-long journey.
Our staff is committed to ensuring every child receives the best quality education in the safest possible environment - your home.

A bit about myself:
I served as a teacher in the La Habra City School District in grades 5, 7, and 8, at Walnut and Washington Middle Schools. In 1996 I was named assistant principal at Imperial Middle School, where I remained until 2000 when I became the principal at Walnut Elementary School. In 2015 I was named principal at Las Positas, where I remained until my retirement in 2017.   La Habra City School District was my work “home” for 31 years, and I was proud to be associated with the district and the community. I know that parents and guardians in La Habra want the best for their children, and are supporters of quality education.

Some reminders that are worth repeating:
Please ensure that your contact information is always up to date.  Because we are a virtual school, this is more important than ever.  Please make sure your students sign-in to their zoom lessons every day and on time.  Be sure they have a designated area to complete their schoolwork and complete all assignments and projects required by their teacher.

I look forward to working with you and your children “virtually” throughout the year.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Email is probably the easiest way to contact me.  Leave a phone number in the email, and I will call you back promptly.  My email is [email protected]

I will establish some consistent office hours in the coming days and will inform you of those times.  Our “school” will also send out occasional messages on the Remind app, Teleparent, and email.  If you are interested, I would like to hold a monthly “coffee with the principal," via zoom, for different grade levels throughout the year.  I apologize in advance but, since we are "virtual," you will need to provide the coffee!

As parents, you have always been the most important "cog" in your child's education wheel. After all, you were their first teacher.   Your support, participation, and encouragement are vital to your child's success in a virtual school model.   Our virtual “school” will genuinely reflect the district's 2020-2021 goal of “Stronger Together More Than Ever!”

Sincerely,
Mike Klewer
