Dear La Habra Families,
Last week we shared with you that the State had promised COVID-19 rapid antigen tests to all students in the state of California. Our District has been waiting anxiously for these optional test kits to arrive so that we could distribute them to our families. Yesterday morning, the County Offices received the tests, but unfortunately, the number of kits sent was far below what the State had committed for Orange County. Only 40 percent of the needed kits were sent for distribution to families in our county.
Our District wants to ensure we are using our allocated test kits in the most efficient and effective way to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 on our school sites. With receiving only 40% of the kits needed, we are unable to give one to each student in our district as we had hoped we could do. Instead we will be using these COVID-19 rapid antigen tests for our students who are in close contact with a positive case in our school setting and are eligible to do a “modified quarantine” at school.
If your student is determined to be a CLOSE CONTACT by our District Nurses to a positive case on campus and they have no COVID-19 symptoms, they may be able to have a “modified quarantine” at school. This means they can continue to report to school as long as they remain asymptomatic, wear a well-fitted mask, AND TEST TWICE within 5 days of exposure. Our District will be using our rapid antigen test kits sent by the State for these close contact student testing.
Students who are determined to be a school setting close contact, will be sent home with an “On/Go COVID-19 Antigen Self-Test”. Each kit contains two tests. These students will be asked to use one of these tests before they return the next school day and the second test again in five days. Instructions will be included with the test kits in both English and Spanish.
Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms at home, and report any positive cases to your school office. Together we will keep our students, staff and community safe.

La semana pasada compartimos con ustedes que el Estado había prometido pruebas rápidas de antígeno COVID-19 a todos los estudiantes del estado de California. Nuestro Distrito ha estado esperando ansiosamente que estos kits de pruebas opcionales lleguen para que podamos distribuirlos a nuestras familias. Ayer por la mañana, las oficinas del condado recibieron las pruebas, pero desafortunadamente, el número de kits enviados no era lo que el estado había prometido para el Condado de Orange. Solo el 40 por ciento de los kits necesarios fueron enviados para su distribución a las familias.
Nuestro Distrito quiere asegurarse de que estamos usando nuestros kits de pruebas asignados de la manera más eficiente y efectiva para ayudar a reducir la transmisión de COVID-19 en nuestras escuelas. Con recibir solo el 40% de los kits necesarios, no podemos dar una a cada estudiante en nuestro distrito como esperábamos hacerlo. En su lugar, usaremos estas pruebas de antígeno rápido COVID-19 para nuestros estudiantes que están en contacto cercano con un caso positivo en nuestro entorno escolar y son elegibles para hacer una “cuarentena modificada”.
Si las enfermeras del distrito determinan que su estudiante ha estado en contacto cercano a un caso positivo en la escuela y no tienen síntomas de COVID-19, ellos pueden tener una “cuarentena modificada” en la escuela. Esto significa que pueden seguir presentándose en la escuela siempre que permanezcan asintomáticos, usen una mascarilla bien ajustada y SE HAGAN UNA PRUEBA DOS VECES dentro de los 5 días del contacto. Nuestro Distrito estará usando nuestros kits de prueba rápida de antígeno enviados por el Estado para estas pruebas de contacto cercano con los estudiantes.
Los estudiantes que son determinados de haber estado en contacto cercano en la escuela, serán enviados a casa con un “On/Go COVID-19 Antigen Self-Test”. Cada kit contiene dos pruebas. A estos estudiantes se les pedirá que usen uno de estos exámenes el día antes de regresar a la escuela y el segundo examen nuevamente en cinco días. Se incluirán las instrucciones de la prueba en inglés y español.
Continúe monitoreando a su hijo para detectar síntomas en el hogar e informe cualquier caso positivo a la oficina de su escuela. Juntos mantendremos seguros a nuestros estudiantes, personal escolar y comunidad.
