Las Lomas Elementary at Global Deep Learning conference.

Las Lomas second through sixth grade teachers had the wonderful opportunity to attend a two-day Global Deep Learning conference put on by NPDL: New Pedagogies for Deep Learning alongside educators from all over the globe.  Countries represented at the conference included: Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Uruguay, and the United States.

During the two-days, teachers were able to network and learn how to reimagine learning for our students so that they can thrive in a world that is complex and ever changing so they are able to apply their thinking to new situations and ultimately change the world.

For the past three years the staff has been working to create opportunities for our students to develop the six global competencies of deep learning: character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking to help them learn and practice the skills they need to be future entrepreneurs.

Two of our teachers, Annette Goodman and Theresa Huston, presented at the conference regarding the journey they have taken with their students, lessons they learned along the way, how the 6 C’s have changed how their students think and interact with one another, how they have instilled an entrepreneur mindset in their students and across their curriculum, and how deep learning has impacted our school community.

It was a great two days of learning for our teachers and we can’t wait to implement what we learned with our students.
