At El Cerrito Elementary, Home of the Scotties, students are thriving through engaging, hands-on learning experiences that build foundational skills and spark curiosity every day.
In the primary grades, students are strengthening their literacy skills through UFLI phonemic awareness strategies, helping young learners connect sounds and letters as they grow in reading confidence. Thanks to the dedication of the kindergarten through second-grade teaching team, students are making strong progress toward their reading goals.
In mathematics, teachers are using Counting Collections and Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) to deepen students’ understanding of numbers and problem-solving. These strategies reflect LHCSD’s professional development focus and are brought to life daily by El Cerrito’s outstanding educators.
Students are also developing digital fluency through coding lessons with Code to the Future Coach Sade Wilson. Using Scratch Jr. and Scratch.mit.edu, students are learning to design, code, and share interactive stories and games. With support from Coach Wilson and their classroom teachers, students are preparing digital projects they’ll showcase at the upcoming Epic Build Showcase.
El Cerrito’s team continues to lead with purpose—fostering innovation, collaboration, and achievement for every Scottie!
