One of the exciting highlights of the start of the school year at Las Positas Elementary was welcoming author Gary Hogg to campus. As an IB PYP school, Las Positas is committed to creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to think creatively, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their learning. Mr. Hogg’s visit brought those goals to life by inviting every student to step into the role of an author.
Each class participated in a one-hour writing session where students explored the writing process and discovered how authors transform ideas into detailed, engaging stories. Through an interactive presentation, Mr. Hogg encouraged students to ask questions, use their imaginations, develop characters, and add meaningful details that bring their ideas to life.
The experience provided an authentic opportunity for students to grow as thinkers and communicators while discovering the value of sharing their unique perspectives. Students demonstrated the curiosity, creativity, and confidence that are at the heart of the IB Primary Years Programme.
Excitement filled the classrooms as students began imagining and creating stories of their own. Las Positas is grateful to Mr. Hogg for inspiring our young authors and helping them see themselves as creative, capable storytellers.
