Dear La Habra Families,

For the 2021-2022 school year, you have the right to request an independent study option if your child’s health would be put at-risk by in-person instruction.  LHCSD offers two independent study options; the Virtual Independent Learning Academy (VILA) and the Community Home Education Program (CHEP) through a partnership with Orange County Department of Education.

The goal of both VILA andl CHEP is to provide an alternative to in-person instruction to students whose health may be put at risk by attending class face-to-face.  As such, Independent Study is an educational program that provides instruction based on the state-adopted content standards by certificated teachers. There are specific requirements for instructional time that includes both synchronous and asynchronous work. These expectations will be outlined in the students’ written Learning Agreement, which must be signed prior to enrollment.

Please review the information provided below on VILA or follow this link to learn more about CHEP.

If interested in VILA, submit an Intra-District Transfer Request Form.  Once submitted, families will be contacted by Ms. Flesher, principal of El Cerrito School with more information.

If interested in CHEP, contact the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, Dr. Sheryl Tecker.
