Las Lomas Elementary is embarking on an exciting journey as a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), an approach to teaching and learning designed to develop curious, confident, and lifelong learners.
The Primary Years Programme encourages students to take an active role in their learning. Rather than simply receiving information, students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, solve problems, and make meaningful connections between what they learn at school and the world around them. These inquiry-based experiences help students develop the skills and confidence to become thoughtful and engaged learners.
A central focus of the IB PYP is developing the whole child academically, socially, and emotionally. Students are encouraged to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and caring members of their communities. Through collaboration, reflection, and exploration, students develop skills that will support their success in school and throughout their lives.
As a Candidate School, Las Lomas is pursuing authorization to become an IB World School. The candidacy process provides an opportunity for teachers and staff to deepen their instructional practices while building a learning environment centered on student curiosity, voice, inquiry, and meaningful learning experiences.
This journey represents an exciting opportunity for the Las Lomas community. By pursuing the IB Primary Years Programme, Las Lomas continues its commitment to providing students with challenging, engaging, and internationally minded learning experiences that prepare them to understand their world and recognize the important role they can play in it.
