El Cerrito School recognized for exemplary postive behavioral programs for students

La Habra City School District is proud to announce that El Cerrito Elementary has earned the 2023 Gold Level Positive Behaviorlal Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Award. El Cerrito Elementary was previously named a Silver Level PBIS school in 2022.

The California PBIS Coalition, also known as CPC,  initiated their first statewide effort in 2015 to implement a recognition system to acknowledge schools for implementing PBIS with fidelity to the national framework. Schools may apply to be recognized as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum PBIS schools.

To apply, schools must have an active PBIS team consisting of certificated and classified staff as well as parents that meet a minimum of once monthly to review and plan for PBIS implementation. One of the framework requirements is to review data with the entire staff to ensure areas of challenge are being addressed. If a team feels they have met the threshold criteria for the various levels of recognition, they can begin the application process.

The application process consists of a thorough application which includes a review of data and must be completed by the entire PBIS site team. Prior to submission of the application, a certified external reviewer comes to campus to interview students, staff, and parents, as well as review the application to ensure all that is reported is happening. Once the reviewer certifies the application and verifies implementation, the application is submitted.

Congratulations to El Cerrito students, teachers, staff, and families for this great accomplishment.
