Welcome to Las Positas Elementary School.

Dear Las Positas Families,

Welcome to Las Positas Elementary School, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) World School. 

If you are wondering what an IB PYP is, Las Positas is all about providing a student centered approach to nurture and develope caring, active lifelong learners. We tap into our student's natural curiosity to offer an inquiry-based curriculum that not only builds on conceptual understanding, but also responds to current challenges and opportunities in the global society to foster advocacy and active participation.

Collaborating with our IB PYP Coordinator, Mrs. Dana Riggs, our teachers write, teach, assess and reflect each Unit of Inquiry taught to our students. TK and Kinder students complete four transdisciplinary themed IB PYP units throughout the school year, and grades 1 - 5 complete all six transdisciplinary themed IB PYP units. All students learn through inquiry and reflection. Our school values the IB Learner Profile Attributes: caring, balanced, thinker, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, communicator, inquirer, reflective and courageous taught throughout all International Baccalaureate schools worldwide. 

We believe in our mission statement: To develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring students who become active, compassionate, life-long learners and globally responsible citizens. Las Positas embraces the IB PYP, our students are global learners and take action locally!
