Dear La Habra City School District Families, Staff and Community,

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Richard Hermann, former Superintendent, who dedicated over five decades of service to the La Habra City School District and its community. Dr. Hermann's unparalleled commitment to education and the well-being of our students has left a lasting memory on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dr. Hermann deeply impacted our District. He was hired in 1959 to teach Math and Language Arts at Washington Middle School. Four years later, he became the Assistant Principal. Dr. Hermann then served as Principal at Las Lomas before returning to Washington to serve as their Principal in 1969. After briefly leaving the District to serve as Assistant Superintendent for the Orange Unified School District, Dr. Hermann returned to the La Habra City School District in 1980 to serve as Superintendent until his retirement in 2008.

Dr. Hermann was more than a leader; he was a pillar of strength, kindness, and support within our community. His tenure as Superintendent was marked by a gentle yet powerful approach to leadership, profoundly impacting both the educational landscape and the lives of countless individuals within La Habra.

Even in retirement, Dr. Hermann continued to serve, most notably through his passionate support of The La Habra Boys and Girls Club. His legacy is one of kindness, commitment, and a deep-seated love for our community that will be felt for generations to come.

As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the incredible life and contributions of Dr. Hermann. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his remarkable life.

In remembrance of Dr. Richard Hermann, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication to education. He will be greatly missed, but his impact will forever remain a part of La Habra City School District.

Respectfully,

Mario A. Carlos, Ed.D.
Superintendent
