Welcome to Imperial Middle School! Our team is committed to providing the best quality education for your child. Imperial Middle School is a candidate school* for the MYP. We are pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes visit http://www.ibo.org.
The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) offers a high-quality program of international education that share a powerful vision. An IB education:
- focuses on learners – the IB student-centered programs promote healthy relationships, ethical responsibility and personal challenge
- develops effective approaches to teaching and learning – the IB Program helps students to develop the attitudes and skills they need for both academic and personal success
- works within global contexts – the IB program increase understanding of languages and cultures, and explore globally significant ideas and issues
- explores significant content – the IB program offers a curriculum that is broad and balanced, conceptual and connected.
Informed by values described in the learner profile, IB MYP learners strive to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.
Most students learn best when they can apply their studies to the world around them. The IB Middle Years Program places a high value on this type of immersive learning, and promotes a learning environment that embraces real-world applications in all of its studies. To do so, the MYP focuses on eight core subject areas. According to IBO.org, these eight core areas provide, “a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.”
These subject areas include:
- Language and Literature
- Individuals and Societies
- Language Acquisition (Spanish)
- Physical and Health Education

Imperial is a school dedicated to meeting the needs of adolescents. During these next three years, we recognize our students will change in many different ways: academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. Our school is structured to help students navigate through this exciting and challenging time of life with the active support and guidance of our whole staff as we partner with our students and families to create a successful middle school experience. We are one team, with one vision--to develop academically prepared students and lifelong citizens of character.
We achieve our vision through a balanced curriculum that incorporates the arts and provides ample opportunities for student growth and development. As an Arts Academy we are distinguished from other local schools due to the fact that we recognize both the power and importance of the arts in promoting academic success and creating strong people of character.
Our academic program is an engaging, rigorous, and collaborative experience that seeks to develop college and career ready students. Teachers create hands-on lessons that relate to the real world in order to prepare our students for high school and beyond. Each student is academically challenged through a core curriculum that is designed to stretch and support them. Students have the opportunity to take advanced Language Arts and math classes based on their level of readiness. We also have intervention programs such as Read 180 in order to assist students who need support as we meet all of our students where they are .
As an art academy we infuse the arts into every classroom as well as offer a rich assortment of art electives for students. From performance art where students may study band, piano, ukulele, chorus or drama, to visual art where students may study visual communication, art, drawing, and ceramics, to literary art where students may study story writing, literature, and poetry, students are presented with a wonderful and powerful opportunity to engage the arts.
At Imperial technology is utilized across our entire campus through our 1:1 take home iPad program, Chromebooks, and a telepresence classroom. Each classroom on campus incorporates technology as a tool to bolster student learning. Students are trained to be responsible, digital citizens and to use technology in appropriate and creative ways.
Our students both serve and lead the community as we develop citizens of character. School should be a safe place for all students and a place they look forward to going each day. We believe this environment is created through building and investing in relationships. Our school counselor is an essential part of cultivating a school community that is like a home away from home. We start by carving out time in our week for each student through our Twenty-first Century Learning Communities (TLC) that promote respect, responsibility and community amongst our students and staff. Our goal is for each student to have an adult on campus that is an advocate, someone who can assist each student in navigating the challenges and opportunities of middle school, as well as for them to develop into well-rounded citizens through lessons presented each week.
We further support all students through our student leaders in Peer Assistant Leadership (P.A.L.s), ASB, and conflict managers teaming with staff to create a positive campus climate that welcomes students and creates an inviting school experience for them. We further build camaraderie and school spirit through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Students continue to thrive after the end of the school day through involvement in our many team sports as well as clubs such as tutoring, law enforcement, and cooking.
At Imperial Middle School our goal is the same as yours, we want to help develop academically prepared students and lifelong citizens of character. We do this through meeting the needs of the whole child in the context of positive relationships where your child is known and heard by staff and peers. Through these intentionally crafted relationship students have a place to belong and thrive. Imperial Middle School staff members are dedicated, caring educators who look forward to helping students become all they can be.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve and support your child We are so glad you are here!
